Why are Tribal Tattoos the Most Popular Tattoo Design in America

Tribal tattoo design searches take up an astonishing 33% percent of all tattoo searches, so retain the popularity they've had from ancient times to the present day. Traditionally tribal tattoos were for numerous reasons. Regularly believed to help gain easy entry into adulthood or even the afterlife, tattoos were widely recognized as the best method to do both that and to help receive extra bonuses when the recipient finally got there.

Used to demonstrate sexual prowess, victory in war and many other things, tattoos are the archetypal and probably one of the most favored and understood ways to display a message upon the human body. It is rumored that the first tattoos depicted the sun or flames to honor sun gods, because this is the way we as humans first came across tattooing - via fire. Most primitive tribes used tattoos or body scaring of some description to get a message across to either members of the same tribe, or a tribe they were in conflict against, much like gangland America today.

Native American Indians are one set of people who have a far-flung history of the tribal tattoo. Dependant on the tribe, and the message which needs to be conveyed, American Indian tribal tattoos are becoming more and more popular, but people who get them who have no connection with any tribe are increasingly mistaking what the meaning of the tattoo they're getting is. As American Indian's have different ways to convey a message and the various tribes all interpret different things in different ways, what means one think to Cherokee for example, might be a direct insult to someone from another tribe.

People who have deep rooted Native American ancestry are usually among the worst victims of these mistakes. Wanting to honor their ancestors who they believe were of a certain descent, they have the tattoo to correspond to find out the tribe which they originally thought their ancestor was from, was only a guess because there was either no literature about it or no-one around who could remember.

Classically designed using rich flowing black lines and curves, tribal tattoos are very appealing to the eye and represent a strong flowing image that is particularly attractive. It is because of this most people will first go for a tribal tattoo in place of something a bit more sentimental. Aside from anything else, the meaning will probably not be known by anyone they come across and unless they just decide they hate it after having it done; it is much less likely that they'll regret it because of a change of circumstances - let's face it, it isn't like having a name tattooed, is it.

Leo Zuleta is particularly famous in the world of tribal tattoo now, after designing many neo-tribal tattoos in the 1990's and becoming a world-wide phenomenon literally overnight, he has opened the eyes of many people to the intrinsic art to a tribal tattoo. It is because of people like Leo Zuleta that a large percentage of Americans see another side to the tribal tattoo, thus are more likely to request a tribal tattoo than any other.
